Uitvoering Verzamel de stad
Amsterdam Museum en Museum om de Hoek zijn in 2020 een samenwerking gestart om binnen het thema ‘Verzamel de stad’ een tijdelijke tentoonstelling Samen meer Mokum in te richten waarin het heden en verleden van Amsterdam een centrale plaats innemen.
Het tweede thema is ‘Operatie wonen’ (open vanaf 25 september 2022). Museum Amsterdam Noord, Historisch Archief De Baarsjes, Van Eesteren Museum en Borneo Architectuur Centrum maakten samen deze tentoonstelling over 100 jaar volkshuisvesting en wonen in de stad. Een kritische reflectie op de ontwikkeling en de huidige woonsituatie in vier Amsterdamse wijken in stadsdelen waar de buurtmusea gevestigd zijn – Van der Pekbuurt, De Baarsjes, Slotermeer en het Oostelijk Havengebied.
We blikken vanuit het heden terug op een eeuw Amsterdamse wooncultuur en reflecteren kritisch op de huidige wooncrisis. Zit er een verschil in hoe je wílt wonen en hoe je op dit moment kán wonen? En wat is hier de oplossing voor? In de tentoonstelling geven we het woord aan bewoners, activisten en deskundigen.
De zes periodes vallen samen met de tijd waarin het complex van Amsterdam Museum aan de Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal wordt verbouwd en de instelling alleen in het pand Hermitage aan de Amstel te bezoeken is. De 22 instellingen van Museum om de Hoek zijn natuurlijk ook elk op hun eigen locatie te bezoeken.
De thema’s van de volgende periodes zijn respectievelijk ‘Vertier, kunst en poëzie’, ‘Water en ambacht’, ‘Religie, de dood en slavernij’ en ‘Beroemde Amsterdammers uit de geschiedenis.’ De tentoonstelling met thema ‘Armoede, eerlijke handel, (de)kolonisatie’ is inmiddels beëindigd.
Collecting the city executed
In 2020, Amsterdam Museum and Museum om de Hoek started a collaboration to set up a temporary exhibition Together more Mokum (Mokum being the nickname for Amsterdam) within the theme ‘Collecting the city’, in which the present and past of Amsterdam take centre stage.
The second theme is ‘Operation Housing’ (open from 25 September 2022). Museum Amsterdam Noord, Historical Archive De Baarsjes, Van Eesteren Museum and Borneo Architecture Centre together made an exhibition about 100 years of public housing and living in the city. A critical reflection on the development and the current living situation in four Amsterdam neighborhoods in districts where the neighborhood museums are located – Van der Pek area, De Baarsjes, Slotermeer and the Eastern Docklands.
Operation Housing looks back on a century of housing in Amsterdam. You can see the development of housing situations in certain Amsterdam neighborhoods and zoom in on the current housing crisis. Is there a difference in how you want to live and how you actually can live? And what is the solution for this issue?
The six periods coincide with the time when the Amsterdam Museum complex on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal is being renovated and the institution can only be visited in the Hermitage aan de Amstel building. The 22 institutions of Museum om de Hoek can of course also be visited at their own location.
The themes of the following periods are respectively ‘Amusement, art and poetry’, ‘Water and craft’, ‘Religion, death and slavery’ and ‘Famous Amsterdam people from history.’ The exhibition with the theme ‘Poverty, fair trade, (de)colonisation’ has ended.
