Het Luther Museum is gevestigd in het voormalig Evangelisch-Luthers Diaconie Oude Mannen- en Vrouwenhuis. Dit pand uit 1772 speelde een grote rol bij de opvang van armen, ouderen en wezen. De Lutherse gemeente verzamelde in de loop der geschiedenis belangrijk erfgoed.
Het historische gebouw, met de regentenkamers en kerkzaal, is het belangrijkste collectiestuk van het museum. De collectie bestaat verder uit schilderijen, zilver en authentieke meubelstukken. Het museum laat het verhaal zien van een nieuwe start als kerkgemeenschap, met een eigen wijze van geloven en veel zorg voor elkaar.
Care for others
The Lutheran Museum is situated in the former Evangelical-Lutheran Diaconal house for the Elderly. This building from 1772 played a big part in the care of the poor, the elderly and orphans. In the course of history, the Lutheran community built up an important collection.
The historic building itself, with its governors’ rooms and church hall, is the most impressive collection piece, but the collection also includes paintings, authentic pieces of furniture and silverware. The museum shows how a religious community made a new start, with its own manner of believing, and built on care for one another.
